Italy January 2024: Dacia hits record 2nd place, Jeep Avenger at #4

Dacia is only outsold by Fiat in January. The Italian new car market is up 10.6% year-on-year in January to 141,946 units according to UNRAE. Private sales are up 10.2% to 88,083 and 61.1% share vs. 61.5% a year ago, self registrations are down -5% to 11,357 and 7.9% share vs. 9.2%, long term leases edge up 4.8% to 30,406 and 21.1% share vs. 22.3% and short term rentals surge a whopping 306.7% to 6,170 and 4.3% share vs. 1.2% in January 2023.

Volvo stops funding Polestar, hands stake to Chinese-owned Geely

Funding and control of Polestar is shifting. On Thursday Volvo announced it is shifting "full operational and financial support" of its Polestar subsidiary to Chinese-owned Geely. Volvo itself is a subsidiary of Geely, which snapped up the Swedish automaker from Ford in 2010. Volvo and Geely never fully merged, but Geely owns a Geely owns a 78.7%.
