This leads the year-to-date tally to 9.08 million units, up 1.4% over the year-ago figure of 8.95 million. The SAAR is up slightly to 15.8 million units, up from 15.7 million in July 2023 and 13.5 million in July 2022. The average daily selling rate (DSR) stands at 50,925, down from 51,971 a year ago.

Local consultancy DesRosiers Automotive has the Canadian new light vehicle market up 11% year-on-year in July to an estimated 161,000 units, thanks partly to delayed sales from the June software outage. This is however still below the 170-185,000 units July volumes pre-pandemic. The SAAR is at 1.77 million, up 14.2% on July 2023, above every month in Q2 but below every month in Q1.

BMW has issued a recall spanning seven of its models lines, though only certain model variants built between the 2019 and 2021 model years are affected. The cause of the recall, which affects 105,588 vehicles in the U.S., is a starter motor that could overheat if damaged and the driver repeatedly attempts to start the engine using long starting.

Only four months after Australian electric vehicle (EV) charging pioneer Tritium went into administration, the firm has been purchased by the Dutch subsidiary of an Indian rival, providing hope for a return to manufacturing. Tritium declared itself insolvent in April, calling for an administrator to be appointed just five months after shuttering its Brisbane facility to consolidate manufacturing operations at its Lebanon, Tennessee plant in the US.

A 1985 Mercedes 500SEC AMG 6.0 built before Benz bought out the Affalterbach tuning firm is up for auction. The 51,000-mile, V8-powered coupe is being offered on auction site Cars & Bids in the US. It started life in Europe as a regular 500SEC before AMG increased the engine capacity and upgraded the chassis. Mercedes has owned AMG outright since 2005 and held a controlling stake in the tuning outfit for six years before that.

The man suing Hyundai and Kia says his driving data was shared and triggered a $250 insurance premium increase. Earlier this year, GM was accused of selling data it collects through its OnStar service. Hyundai and Kia have been accused of collecting driving data from their owners and selling it to insurance companies in the United States without consent.

Isuzu Ute Australia has recalled 149,049 examples of its current-generation D-Max ute and MU-X SUV, due to a fault which can lead to their engines stalling. “Due to a software issue, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may incorrectly reduce the engine speed. If this occurs, the engine may stall, resulting in a loss of motive power,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.
