BMW has issued a recall spanning seven of its models lines, though only certain model variants built between the 2019 and 2021 model years are affected. The cause of the recall, which affects 105,588 vehicles in the U.S., is a starter motor that could overheat if damaged and the driver repeatedly attempts to start the engine using long starting.

Dodge is gearing up to launch two new HurriCrate engines. The crate engines are based on the twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six. A 1985 Mercedes 500SEC AMG 6.0 built before Benz bought out the Affalterbach tuning firm is up for auction. The 51,000-mile, V8-powered coupe is being offered on auction site Cars & Bids in the US. It started life in Europe as a regular 500SEC before AMG increased the engine capacity and upgraded the chassis. Mercedes has owned AMG outright since 2005 and held a controlling stake in the tuning outfit for six years before that.

Dodge is recalling 3,750 Chargers and Challengers from the 2023 model year. The vehicles have misaligned seat back strikers that can prevent the left rear seat from locking into place. Earlier this year, GM was accused of selling data it collects through its OnStar service. Hyundai and Kia have been accused of collecting driving data from their owners and selling it to insurance companies in the United States without consent.

The UK’s used car market grew for the sixth consecutive quarter, rising 7.2% in Q2, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). In Q2, there were an additional 131,128 sales compared with the same period in 2023. Transactions have been rising every month, with the first six months up 6.8% to 3,931,318 units. This is the best growth since 2016 and the best H1 since 2019.

Figures released by the SMMT revealed the used car market’s growth, for the sixth consecutive quarter, rising 7.2% in Q2. 46,773 BEVs were sold between April and June, a rise of 52.6% resulting in, at 2.4%, the highest ever share of the market, up from 1.7% on the same period last year. PHEVs and HEVs grew, up 25.2% to 21,580 units and 43.6% to 78,782 units respectively.
