The slowdown in supply of later-model used vehicles is already having an impact in the retail car market, according to industry analyses released this month. Cars Commerce said in its latest Industry Insights Report that used-car inventory was up 1% year-over-year in July, due mostly to inventory of sub-$30,000 vehicles climbing 9%. But for $30,000 to $49,000 vehicles — which is the price range typical for 1- to 3-year-old used vehicles — inventory fell 15%, according to Cars Commerce.

The used car market is witnessing a “significant” shift towards hybrids away from petrol. That’s the conclusion of the latest Indicata Market Watch report. IT said mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles (MHEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) accounted for almost one in three (30.8%) of July’s sales of used cars up to four years old. This came at the expense of petrol cars whose market share has fallen by over 10% in just 19 months from 59.8% in January 2023 to 49.4% in July 2024.

Fisker just recalled 7,745 cars for an issue surrounding regenerative braking. The problem mostly appears during driving over bumps. The bankrupt automaker says it’ll fix the issue with a software update. While Fisker might be in the midst of bankruptcy proceedings , it’s still issuing recalls and this one is somewhat strange.
