Two patent filings hint at how Ferrari is planning to make up for the lack of engine noises in future electric cars. One patent application, published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on March 21, and filed by Ferrari last year, is for a triple-motor EV with sound generators, plus inlets positioned near each of the motors.

Citroen sales gain 69.9% year-on-year in April. Sales of new light vehicles in Morocco advance 6.3% year-on-year in April to 13,268 units. This includes 11,906 passenger cars (+5.6%) and 1,362 light commercials (+12.9%). The year-to-date passenger car tally is down -3.1% to 43,647. In the lead of the brands ranking, Dacia (+17.5%) outpaces the market to 25% share vs. 27.5% so far this year.

The Hyundai Kona is #3 in Northern Ireland this month. Thanks to SMMT we can share with you the Top 10 best-selling models for each UK nation in April. Keep in mind this is a zoom in by nation, all sales figures are already included in the April 2024 UK update. In an overall market up 1%, Northern Ireland fares the best this month at +11.2% to 3,815 sales, ahead of Wales +8.1% to 4,916 and England up 2.7% to 115,014.

Ferrari this week tested new spray guards for its Formula 1 cars as the FIA looks to tackle the problem of visibility on wet tracks. The test, which took place at Ferrari's own Fiorano circuit, saw Arthur Leclerc (brother of current Ferrari F1 driver Charles) driving last year's race car with the experimental spray guards while Ferrari F1 reserve.

Toyota holds 8.4% of the French market in April. New car sales in France return to positive territory in April at +10.9% year-on-year to 146,977 units. This is the best April result since the pandemic but still a ghastly -21.9% on the 188,199 sales of pre-pandemic April 2019. The year-to-date volume is now up 6.9% to 591,880. Petrol sales are down -11.6% to 47,255, diesel is off -18.4% to 11,330 and PHEVs edge down -0.1% to 10,866.

BYD has turned its Ocean-M concept into a reality, in the form of the Seal X. Filings with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) uncovered by Car News China reveal the hatchback (or should that be wagon?) will sit alongside the Seal sedan in the range. At 4630mm long on a 2820mm wheelbase, it’s almost as long as a Hyundai Tucson SUV – rather than a hot hatch, it’s a slightly smaller take on the Seal sedan.

Ford Australia is expanding its aftersales support package by adding electric vehicle (EV) chargers to its range of extra-cost equipment. The brand’s Australian division announced today it had collaborated with Evie Networks to offer an “EV Charging Package” for current and future owners of the Mustang Mach-E , E-Transit , Escape plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and upcoming Puma Gen-E , due later in 2024.

This TVR T350 C 4.0 was built as a display model for the British Motor Show. Later used as a press car, it was equipped with a larger engine than the customer car. Now available at auction, estimates suggest that it could go for as much as $44,000. While there is no such thing as a TVR that isn’t rare, this T350 C is extremely special, having been commissioned by the automaker to serve as a show car for the British Motor Show in 2002.

The dealer says that the damage to its vehicles following these thefts amounts to tens of thousands of dollars. A new MG HS has been spotted in Australia – based on a mid-size SUV sold by MG’s parent company SAIC – ahead of a local launch later this year. Tesla’s long-term plans for its industry-leading Supercharger stations in Australia remain under a cloud, despite work continuing on its immediate projects.
