When closing, the doors stop dead if they detect an impact – you’ll feel the bump, but won’t be left mangled or crushed. One regular infotainment screen could easily handle all the functions spread across multiple displays here. Similarly, mid-corner bumps, when feeding in more power, can cause the car to lurch alarmingly.

There’s a really cool animation that spreads across the entire digital instrument cluster to let you know this is something serious. Sure it’s a small temporary space saver spare wheel, which isn’t as good as a proper full-size spare wheel, but it’s much better than a pesky tyre repair kit or nothing at all.

Under the boot floor you’ll find a space-saver spare wheel – worse than a full-size but better than a tyre repair kit. I drove the car at night and found the headlights were too dim to offer a nice spread in front of the car. I was impressed with the way the Vitara Turbo dealt with road imperfections and bumps in the bitumen.
