He tells us that before the price bump, he had too many to count. The $1,000 asking price for a test drive goes toward the purchase in case a deal is reached.

None of these systems are dangerous – or potential deal-breakers – and they can be fixed with a software update, but they are far from perfect. It feels nimble and keen to turn into corners, it’s not disturbed by mid-corner bumps, there’s not much body roll, and the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres hold on well in fast corners.

Few customers at this price point buy their vehicles outright, so you may be able to get a sharper finance deal on the Solterra than the bZ4X. An end date for the free servicing deal has not been announced. The Subaru feels firmer over bumps than the bZ4X, and does not disguise its two-tonne weight as well.

At high speeds the body is composed and settled, but around town occupants feel more of speed bumps, expansion joints, and ripples in the road than they ought to. That said, while there is still much room for improvement in the Model Y we did test, we did not find it too stiff to live with, and it wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for us.
